The fact that you are even considering reading Saving Papa’s Tales is gratifying for me. Since starting this story 24 years ago, I have seen many changes in the publishing world. When I began writing, eBooks were not an option. Now that electronic versions of books are in vogue, the choices of what to read seem endless. And if you are—viewing this on a screen—in the last chapter you will find hyperlinks to expand your options even more—including: the history of some scholarly icons, music, music-videos, and one full-length concert. Sometimes when you click on a hyperlink you will be accosted by an ad—this is America after all. But fear not, a countdown will begin and usually in less than four seconds you will be able to experience what I have chosen for you. After that, you can continue anywhere you wish to go.
There seems to be at least two schools of thought about how books should be produced. The tactile group likes pages to hold, a bookmark to insert when taking a break, and pages to turn while reading. Readers on electronic devices love the accessibility of reading on tablets, laptops and smart phones. Why not Coexist and produce books that satisfy everyone’s needs? This is what I’ve tried to do.
My taking so long to complete this book is due to some of my own shortcomings, as well as circumstances beyond my control. However, this delay has allowed the universe that is technology to create a new way for me to write.
In the first 33 chapters, Papa’s and my story is told in a fairly traditional style, but in Chapter 34 all bets are off.
So, if you want to start at Chapter 34 and are intrigued enough to go back to the beginning—so be it—this is now your story to read any way you choose.
Even though the topic of aging can be hard at times, this is not a dark tale. Papa has a very dynamic personality and his humor is omnipresent. I do warn my animal-loving readers that Chapter 16 might be too difficult for them. But you can easily skip that chapter and still get the gist of things.
For the most part our coauthored tale is, in my opinion, uplifting and optimistic. And if you make it all the way to the end, consider entering the contest. You could win 50 bucks from the writer.
Even as my Papa was aging in nursing homes, he was still fascinated with advances in technology. This is why I have given him this blog to further his exposure as a writer and a published author. Ebook readers will love this writer.
