Harm Reduction First When Treating Addiction

Opioids especially -- just say no doesn't often work

I sat briefly on the board of a nonprofit called, Recover A Life. The intended purpose was to help the addicted, especially those addicted to opioids, and their loved ones, by first reducing the amount of harm being caused to all involved. My position as president on the board ended when the nonprofit ran out of funding. This unfortunately, is the fate of many good causes.

Dr. Greg LaBranche, who runs a very unique addiction awarness service, recommended me for the board post. At the time in 2015, I was one of his clients. Initially, he helped me with a gambling addiction and later on to try and curb my proclivity for excessive alcohol consumption.

Today, Dr. LaBranche is drawing on past endeavors as martial arts instructor, recovered alcoholic, and doctorate to bring resources to the field of addiction via the internet. He works with people with all types of addictive behaviors; opioids included. More about his, harm reduction techniques in my second book, Staying Stoned, which will be available in early 2020.
