CHANGE:
I’ve been thinking a lot about change of late.
Change, moving forward, or backward?
Streets filled with the dissatisfied.
Others content to call it fate.
Politicians come and then they go.
But what have they changed?
Abe had us fight a civil war.
Progress since, all too slow.
Before Rosa Parks, there was Colvin.
Has their bravery lost its seat?
Harriet led many to freedom.
And yet, so many still imprisoned.
Once, we had a Sojourner called Truth.
Now, how to tell which politicians lie?
Many women still stand by their man.
Change might walk with youth.
Women can row and row and Roe.
How long must they continue to wade?
Men still standing in their way.
Never knowing what it means to show.
Change has come as a worldwide pandemic.
Humans wondering how long it will last?
Some look for the profit, others for a prophet.
For many, oppression remains systemic.
The religious kneel down to pray.
Does that mean they’ll risk their necks?
George Floyd was just a man, as too was Jesus.
Change has come for another day.
Changes made, often don’t last.
Will science provide the answers?
An angry few, still deny evolution.
Hatred though, should be in our past.
